Travelling without Daddy Internationally

Lorelei and I jetted off to the US together at the end of August. Marc joined us two weeks later. It took me a long time to decide on when we were going as I was so nervous about flying over 9 hours alone with Lorelei. I mean how would I even go to the bathroom. I lucked out and a friend of ours, Garrick, was planning to travel our way so he graciously offer to fly with us. It was great. Lorelei was mesmerized and interested in playing with another person besides Mommy.

We woke up around 4am on August 25th to fly out. I didn't even have to worry about meeting up with Garrick at the train station since he and Jennifer stayed the night. Those morning flights out of Zurich really are vicious on taking away sleep. We hopped on the train in Bern and were able to play in the family car. I wasn't sure if Lorelei would want to slide and run around at 6am but she was game. After a very easy check-in, we went to one of the children's play rooms in Zurich. The delta agent said the nicer one was too far away for us to make our flight. The funny thing is I think this room is very nice. What airport in the USA has a playroom with baby changing stations and toys? And everything is so clean! We were only able to play for about 30 minutes as we still had to go through security.

Needless to say after getting up so early and after so much play, including playing on the plane, Lorelei was asleep before we even took off. She also took some great naps on the way there. We just had to walk about a hundred laps around the plane during the flight.

We arrived right on time in Atlanta and were able to walk around a bit and have some dinner from the Atlanta Bread Company. We then took our flight to Charleston, WV and Lorelei was asleep for takeoff then slept the whole flight. Grandma Stover was waiting for us at the airport. Even though Lorelei was exhausted she recognized her right away and went straight to her. Travelling without Daddy wasn't as bad as I thought, but I am glad I was not traveling alone.
